Strip away all the superfluous miracles, jibes at pharisees, prophecies and wise words found in the gospels and you will find one or two gems that do not warrant the attention they deserve. One of those gems is Pilate's question - What is truth?
It is a question that we all engage in everyday of our natural lives and perhaps beyond. Each human being; first world or not; reasonable or not; rich or not; black or not, we are all obsessed with this one question. It is the question that has lead to the rise and fall of empires, it determines next season's hottest fashion trends and what commercials will be aired in prime time. It is a very lucrative question, keeping some economies plump and bringing others to a grinding halt. It is also the single question that the 'powers that be' use to keep the blinders over your eyes.
When you inhaled your first breath, you infested the air with that question - WHAT IS TRUTH? - and you have since repeated your question in the same endless loop.
Whenever you ask a question, irrespective of what it is, you are asking Pilate's question. Even when you purchase a pair of Levi jeans over a pair of Guess jeans you are making that all important play to answer the question that has pulsed through you the moment you announced yourself - What is truth?
